BOOK:
THE DOT
Art class is over, but Vashti is sitting in front of a blank piece of paper. The words of her teacher are a gentle invitation to express herself. But Vashti can’t draw - she’s no artist. To prove her point, Vashti jabs at a blank sheet of paper to make an unremarkable and angry mark. "There!" she says. That one little dot marks the beginning of Vashti’s journey of surprise and self-discovery leading readers on a journey to discover the creative spirit in all of us.

DANIEL'S GOOD DAY WORD OF THE WEEK
Use this week's Word of the Week, ARTIST, to extend your learning:
1. Say and trace each letter of this week's word.
2. Sound out the word letter–by-letter.
3. Think of other words that rhyme with artist. These can be real words
or made-up ones that are silly and non-sensical!
CRAFT
Make a Dot Masterpiece
Directions:
Each child will receive:
1 Paper Plate
1. Decorate the paper plate with crayons or markers and make your own masterpiece, just like Vasti. And ... don't forget to sign your name!
LITERACY TIP
Read with passion! Using inflection and maintaining the same highs and lows in
your voice at the same point in a story helps your child begin to remember the
words and grows their early literacy skills!
