BOOK:
HURRY UP!
For one busy boy, life is all hurry up, hurry down, hurry round and round and round!
That is until he takes a big breath...and a big break...and slows down to see all the
wonderful things in the world around him.
RHYME: FIVE LITTLE CATERPILLARS
Five little caterpillars
Sitting on a leaf
One little caterpillar
Fell asleep
When he woke up
He found he could fly
Now there’s four caterpillars
And one butterfly!
(Count down 4, 3, 2, 1 caterpillars)
HURRY UP! WORD OF THE WEEK
Use this week's Word of the Week, STOP, to extend your learning:
1. Say and trace each letter of this week's word.
2. Sound out a word letter–by-letter.
3. Think of other words that rhyme with stop. These can be real words
or made-up ones that are silly and non-sensical!

LITERACY TIP
We often want to build on children's curiosity but don't always know the answers to their questions. We can often discover the answers together in books. Knowledge about the world, even in very young children, is key to understanding. In Hurry Up! our main character learns to slow down and enjoy the natural world that surrounds us all. Combining a story and a factual book on nature or science helps expand children's scientific knowledge.
Some factual books about nature and science that you can use
to extend learning with your children include:
Hippos Are Huge by Jonathan London
A Nest is Noisy by Dianna Hutts Ashton
Up in the Garden, Down in the Dirt by Kate Messner
Outside Your Window: A First Book of Nature by Nicola Davies
Little Kids First Big Book of ... (Series) by National Geographic
