BOOK:
DON'T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS
A bus driver taking a break from his route finds a very unlikely volunteer offering to take over his job - a pigeon! When he doesn't get his way, the pigeon begs and pleads his way through the book with readers getting to answer back to decide his fate. Mo Willems perfectly captures a preschoolers temper tantrum and young readers will laugh both at the pigeon
and maybe a bit at themselves as well in this funny book!

LITERACY TIP
In this storytime, Ms. Jeanne featured the beloved song, "The Wheels on the Bus." This song actually teaches children how things work, which is the kind of general knowledge every child needs to be ready for Kindergarten. After singing this song with your class, try substituting different places you may be going in place of "all through the town," such as "on the way to the library" or "on our way to school." Include people who work in those places, for example the librarian says "read, read, read" or the teacher says "we love to learn!"
