LITERACY TIP
n the book Mae Among the Stars, Little Mae’s parents encouraged her to learn about space and how to become an astronaut. Their encouragement helped Mae Jemison become the first African American woman to travel to space. Telling children that we believe in them, their dreams and their ability to do well helps them learn as well as figure out both who they are and what they are interests are.
