Five little fish swimming in the sea

Teasing Mr. Shark,

“You can’t catch me,

No you can’t catch me!”

LITERACY TIP

Young children are able to absorb an amazing amount of information on topics of interest to them. They become experts, often knowing more than we do on some subjects. By taking advantage of their eagerness to learn, you can build their scientific knowledge. Non-fiction books can be a great way to extend interest and learning in a topic first introduced in a story.

Some non-fiction books that you can introduce your students to

from our circulating book bins include:

A New Green Day by Antoinette Portis

I Spy Under the Sea by Edward Gibbs

Ant! Ant! Ant! An Insect Chant by April Pulley Sayre

Monarch Butterflies by Gail Gibbons

Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! by Bob Barner
