BOOK:
DON'T TOUCH MY HAIR
It seems that wherever Aria goes, someone wants to touch her hair. In the street, strangers reach for her fluffy curls; and even under the sea, in the jungle, and in space, she's chased by a mermaid, monkeys, and poked by aliens . . . until, finally, Aria has had enough! A fun and imaginative story that acknowledges black beauty.
RHYME: HANDS ON SHOULDERS
Hands on shoulders, hands on knees,
Hands behind you, if you please.
Touch your hair,
Now your toes.
Hands up high in the air,
Down at your sides, now touch your hair.
Hands up high, as before.
Now Clap your hands, one, two, three, four!

LITERACY TIP
Read it again! With so many excellent books to choose from we know that there are a plethora of stories you want to share with students. However, taking the time to read some books a second (or third, or fourth!) time is time well spent. Repeated read alouds have so many benefits, like supporting vocabulary growth, guiding children towards deeper comprehension, and scaffolding content for diverse learners.
