BOOK:
I'M SAD
Everyone feels sad sometimes—even flamingos. When Flamingo announces he’s feeling down, the little girl and Potato try to cheer him up, but nothing seems to work.Flamingo learns that he will not always feel this way. And his friends learn that sometimes being a friend means you don’t have to cheer someone up. You just have to stick by your pal no matter how they feel.
RHYME: FIVE PINK FLAMINGOS
Five pink flamingos standing in a row
Dancing around and putting on a show
They danced to the left, and danced to the right
Then one pink flamingo flew out of sight
Count down from five to one flamingo

LITERACY TIP
Emotional literacy, the ability to identify, understand and respond to emotions in oneself and others, is a developmental skill that must be learned in a healthy manner. Teachers and other caregivers can help children learn this skill by expressing their own feelings, encouraging children to talk about their emotions, and introducing games, songs, and stories in their lessons that represent various feelings and how to address and understand them. This will help your students grow a strong foundation in emotional literacy and in turn make them better understand their own and others emotional experiences.
